The World Cup is nearly upon us

The kick off to the world cup is only 8 sleeps away. After that there will be plenty of sleepless nights and early wake ups to catch a match.

This time, the world cup has more importance to me as a result of AUSTRALIA qualifying. After 32 years of disappointment, we have made it after a dramatic penalty shoot out against Uruguay. It was quite and experience and when they march out onto the pitch to face Japan on June 12, Australian football supporters will be very happy.

My football experience has been disappointing since I started to delve into the sport. I supported Liverpool in the EPL so you can say that I have not had a good ride. But maybe there is a renaissance with my football teams. LFC look the goods and are winning and now Oz is in the big stage.

On the topic of Australia, the biggest most heart wrenching disappointment was against Iran in 1997. We were up 2 nil with 15 minutes to go. Then they score 2 and go through on the away goals rule. Heart breaking.

Next week it starts and I think Australia can qualify for the 2nd round, after that it is a dream. But we have super coach Guus Hiddick and he may be able to do some magic.

We shall see......

I really rate Aust to go through with Brazil fom their group, perhaps ahead of Croatia and Japan.

The biggest thing going for them is Guus Hiddink, of course -- super tactician (not just a team manager who says "Ok, we'll play 4-4-2..." like SGE!)
